We are delighted to learn that, following a rigorous application process, Sophia McGrand has received an offer from Homerton College, Cambridge to read Human, Social and Political Sciences. Sophia, formerly of Woodlawn PS in Carrickfergus, is studying English Literature, Government and Politics, History and Drama for A Level and is Editor of the School Newspaper ‘The Student Voice’. Sophia has completed the Co-operation Ireland Future Leaders Gold Peace Award, is a member of the Senior Choir and Impact Charity Committee and was part of our first Abaana Team which travelled to Uganda in April 2025. Outside of school Sophia is a graduate of the Belfast YMCA Youth in Government Programme, a 5-month political education initiative for 16–18 year olds focusing on political literacy, civic engagement and leadership which builds skills in debate, critical thinking and advocacy and has completed work experience with Cheryl Brownlee MLA.
