On Tuesday 25 February, our Sixth Form historians embarked on a trip to Dublin to bring their Irish history syllabus to life. The morning began at Kilmainham Gaol, walking the chilling corridors, viewing the very cells that held the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising and concluding in the stark Stonebreakers' Yard, the execution site of Kilmainham Gaol. Next, the group visited Glasnevin Cemetery to see the resting places of Michael Collins, Éamon de Valera and Constance Markievicz amongst others, and the crypt of Daniel 'The Liberator' O’Connell. A number of the pupils touched his coffin - a tradition said to bring good luck. The pupils also enjoyed a lively walk through Dublin’s bustling city centre. A great trip and our pupils were exemplary ambassadors for the School!
