MATHEMATICS
Mathematics empowers students to think logically, solve problems and make sense of the world through numbers and patterns.
Our vision is to foster deep mathematical understanding, foster confidence and enthusiasm for solving challenging problems and inspire a lifelong passion for learning beyond the classroom.

CURRICULUM
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3, pupils explore a wide range of topics including number, algebra, geometry and data handling. They develop fluency with basic operations, problem-solving with fractions and percentages and an understanding of shape, space and measures. Pupils are also introduced to algebraic manipulation, probability and coordinate geometry.
GCSE
At GCSE, pupils follow the CCEA GCSE Mathematics specification. They build on prior learning with more advanced topics in algebra, geometry and statistics. Pupils develop their problem-solving and reasoning skills while exploring areas like trigonometry, finance-related mathematics and sequences. Many pupils also undertake the CCEA GCSE Further Mathematics course which covers Pure Maths, Mechanics and Statistics.
A Level
At A Level, pupils follow the CCEA GCE Mathematics specification. They study Pure and Applied Mathematics modules covering more advanced algebra, calculus, mechanics and statistics. Pupils can complete A Level Mathematics in Year 13 and go on to study CCEA A Level Further Mathematics in Year 14, deepening their knowledge in advanced pure and applied areas.
Co-curricular Activities
Pupils are encouraged to take part in the UKMT Maths Challenge at Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels. The department also supports participation in the annual A Level competition at Queen’s University Belfast and celebrates Maths Week Ireland with engaging activities for Key Stage 3 pupils.
