CURRICULUM

Key Stage 3

All students learn Drama in Year 8 and can opt to study it further in Year 10. Topics taught at Year 8 include Elements of Drama, Rehearsal Techniques, Scripted Performance, Improvisation and Characterisation. In Year 10 students learn about Greek Theatre, Shakespeare and Stanislavski. Students have many devising and performance opportunities throughout Key Stage 3.

GCSE

At GCSE, pupils follow the CCEA Drama specification. They study either ‘Blood Brothers’ or ‘The Crucible’ for their set text, complete a devised performance with accompanying coursework and perform a piece from a pre-published script of their choice.

A Level

At A Level, pupils follow the AQA Drama and Theatre Studies specification. They study ‘Accidental Death of an Anarchist’, Live Theatre and ‘The Glass Menagerie’ for the written element. They must also complete a devised performance in the style of a practitioner and rehearse and perform three contrasting scripted excerpts, again applying a chosen practitioner’s techniques.

Co-curricular Activities

Key Stage 3 students can participate in Junior Drama Club. The Department is also involved in the school production every other year.
