The Computing Department aims to equip students with the digital skills and computational thinking necessary to thrive in a modern, technology-driven world.
Through a broad and engaging curriculum, it fosters creativity, problem-solving and innovation while promoting responsible and ethical use of technology.
The department supports academic excellence, prepares students for further study and careers in the digital sector and encourages inclusive participation across all year groups.

CURRICULUM
Key Stage 3
Beginning with an introduction to computing pupils will develop core programming skills through a structured approach to text-based coding, while also learning how to use spreadsheets for data handling. Creative digital skills are nurtured through topics such as sound and video editing, as well as website development.
GCSE
At GCSE, Pupils follow the OCR Computer Science and/or CCEA Business and Communications Systems specifications. Pupils will explore topics such as programming fundamentals, data representation and computer systems. They also develop practical skills in using business software, managing data and understanding how digital technologies support modern organisations.
A Level
At A Level, Pupils follow the WJEC Computer Science specification. Pupils will delve into advanced programming, algorithms and data structures, gaining a deeper understanding of how software and hardware interact. They explore topics such as computer architecture, operating systems and the theory of computation, while also developing problem-solving and analytical skills through practical coding and a substantial independent project.
Co-curricular Activities
All pupils in Years 8 are enrolled in the iDEA Award. The Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award, known as iDEA is an international award winning programme that helps you develop digital, enterprise and employability skills.
