All pupils from Years 8-10 are given the opportunity to experience and improve their skills using a wide variety of media including Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, Print Making, Textiles and Three Dimensional Materials. These experiences provide pupils with opportunities for observing, recording, imagining, designing, creating, communicating, appreciating and evaluating.

At GCSE, pupils follow the CCEA GCSE specification. Pupils begin in Year 11 with an experimental portfolio where they explore the diverse range of materials available to artists including ceramics, acrylics and various forms of print making. At Year 12, pupils develop their own artistic project based on an examination brief released by CCEA.

A Level

At A Level, pupils follow the CCEA specification. Pupils begin with an Experimental Portfolio where they engage in high level artistic workshops including oil painting, paper clay ceramics and lithography printmaking. Pupils also engage on various trips including the RUA exhibition in the Ulster Museum and a tour of Dublin’s galleries.

Co-curricular Activities

Pupils can enjoy a fun filled range of ceramic and craft projects hosted by the Art Department with new projects beginning every term. Projects have included making Christmas decorations, Halloween tea lights and spring strawberry planters allowing pupils to put skills learned in the classroom to further creative use.
