J. Robert Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer J. Robert Oppenheimer (1904 - 1967), a prominent American physicist, became known as the father of the atom bomb. During World War II he directed the Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico, where the first atom bomb was designed and built. In 1963 he received the Atomic Energy Commission's prestigious Fermi Award for his work in theoretical physics.
