Sir William Crookes

Crookes Sir William Crookes (1832-1919), an English scientist, was a pioneer in the study of electrical discharge in a vacuum. The "Crookes tube" (1878) is still used in virtually its original form to study the passage of an electric current through a gas, such as air. Crookes was also the discoverer of the element thallium and the inventor of the radiometer.
