A Level Physics

A Level Physics includes an Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level in L6. The Advanced (A) Level, taken in U6 builds on the foundations of knowledge, understanding and skills developed within the AS in physics.

Physics is a challenging A level which requires ability in both physics and mathematics. Anyone taking this course should, if they have an inquisitive mind, find it illuminating. Well organised study with daily consolidation of notes is essential throughout the whole course. Physics as an AS level subject provides a basis for work in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, communications and IT. Physics as an A level subject is an excellent choice for those who want to follow a scientific career. Qualified physicists are very versatile and are rarely unemployed.

AS Level Physics

The AS level consists of three assessment units. Module examinations are taken in June. The topics covered by the units are

Module 1
 -
Physical Quantities

 -
Mechanics

 -
Electricity

Module 2
 -
Waves

 -
Photons and Energy Levels
Module 3
 -
Medical Physics

Experimental Physics - a practical examination involving a planning exercise and a practical excerise.

A Level Physics

The A level consists of six modules, three of which are those required for the AS level. The three modules taken in addition to the AS level are

Module 4  -  Momentum and Energy
   - Thermal Physics
   -  Circular Motion
   -  Fields

 Module 5  -  Capacitors
 - Electromagnetism
 - Electromagnetic Induction
 - Electron Physics
 - Atomic and Nuclear Physics
Module 6

Particle Physics

 - Experimental Physics - a practical examination involving a planning exercise and two practical excerises.
