Pastoral Care
OBJECTIVES OF THE PASTORAL CARE SYSTEM
In pursuance of the Aims of the School, the Objectives of Pastoral Care are:
• to monitor the behaviour and the personal, social and educational development of every pupil in the School;
• to establish and maintain regular channels of communication with parents and colleagues;
• to note any cases of pupils who are suffering from personal or family problems and, while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of the information, to notify all staff who need to know of such problems; to offer whatever help and support the School can provide;
• to draw attention to pupils who, for whatever reason, are failing to achieve their academic potential and to try to correct the situation;
• to ensure that each pupil in the School knows of a sympathetic and accessible member of staff to whom he or she can turn for help and advice;
• to plan a programme of personal and social development appropriate to each year group;
• to prepare pupils for major tasks and changes such as induction into Form 1, new courses in Form 4 and public examinations;
• to encourage pupils to co-operate with each other in all respects of School life and, where appropriate, to assume responsibilities;
• to foster community awareness;
• to contribute to the enforcement of School discipline, thus protecting the safety and interests of all;
• to encourage pupils to feel a sense of pride in themselves and their School and a sense of respect for themselves and other people and for property personal, private or public;
• periodically to review, evaluate and if possible improve upon, agreed policies and procedures.

HOW A PARENT CAN MAKE A COMPLAINT OR AIR A CONCERN

At any time I can talk to Social Services or the Police CARE Unit.
Parents can be assured that all allegations, complaints or requests for action will be:
(i) Listened to or received sympathetically.
(ii) Noted in detail if not received in writing.
(iii) Acted upon in accordance with School procedures unless an immediate clarification is sufficient.
(iv) Replied to in writing or by telephone.
