• to establish and maintain regular channels of communication with parents and colleagues;

• to note any cases of pupils who are suffering from personal or family problems and, while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of the information, to notify all staff who need to know of such problems; to offer whatever help and support the School can provide;

• to draw attention to pupils who, for whatever reason, are failing to achieve their academic potential and to try to correct the situation;

• to ensure that each pupil in the School knows of a sympathetic and accessible member of staff to whom he or she can turn for help and advice;

• to plan a programme of personal and social development appropriate to each year group;

• to prepare pupils for major tasks and changes such as induction into Form 1, new courses in Form 4 and public examinations;

• to encourage pupils to co-operate with each other in all respects of School life and, where appropriate, to assume responsibilities;

• to foster community awareness;

• to contribute to the enforcement of School discipline, thus protecting the safety and interests of all;
