STEM Days for P7 Pupils

P7 pupils from local primary schools visited Belfast High School on Thursday 20, Friday 21 and Monday 24 January to participate in a range of STEM related activities:

The pupils completed a Mathematical Treasure Hunt which consisted of 10 problems which had to be solved correctly to allow them to complete the circuit and find the treasure.  They also experienced a series of puzzles ranging from balancing chairs and hedgehogs to avoiding traffic collisions.

In the Physics department, the pupils learned about the harmful effects of Ultraviolet radiation. They made a bracelet using UV beads that change colour when they are exposed to UV. They saw how sunscreen can reduce UV and then saw some good uses of UV including detection of forged banknotes.

In Technology the pupils assembled a torch based on a battery and an LED and learnt about drawing an electronic circuit.
