Key Stage 3
The work in Years 8 to 10 is important, as it lays the foundation for not only further studies but also for productive cross-curricular use of IT.

The purpose is to |

Give all pupils basic skills in the use of the computer so that it may be used productively and with confidence in a wide variety of situations, both at home and at school. |
|
Encourage a positive attitude to problem solving and decision making, using IT resources. |
|
Foster enjoyment in the use of the computer. |
|
Provide a foundation for competent use of the computer in project work. |
|
Provide pupils with an understanding of how computers work and how they are used in business and everyday life. |
On completion of Form 3 pupils should be able to |

use with confidence word processing, database, spreadsheet, graphics, desk top publishing and communications software |
|
solve a range of problems using IT resources |
|
choose software appropriate for a given task |
|
identify the main parts of a computer system and understand the purpose of each |
|
use hardware with confidence and organise work effectively in storage |
|
relate and apply their experience of IT outside school to work in the IT class and vice versa |
|
demonstrate a knowledge of the terms and abbreviations used in IT |
