At present we are following the NICCEA syllabus and study the following topics...
Module 1 - Themes in Physical Geography
We study
River processes including flooding
Ecosystems including soil and vegetation studies
Weather systems including extreme events such as hurricanes
Module 2 - Themes in Human Geography
We study
Population and resources
Urban and rural settlement
Nature and measurement of development at different scales
Module 3 - Techniques in Geography
We
Study Geographical questions and issues and undertake enquiries
Learn different cartographic and other techniques
Organise and present our findings in a written report
This is a new syllabus which is very challenging and enjoyable. We may not be saying that in June when we see the first exam in the new format!
Advanced Level Geography
Module 4 - Physical Processes and Human Interactions
We study
Fluvial and coastal environments including management of different areas
Pollution and its management including problems of waste disposal in the developed world
Module 5 - Processes and Issues in Human Geography
We study
Patterns in fertility and mortality
Migration processes and outcomes
Population policies in the developed and developing worlds
Issues in Ethnic Diversity including conflict resolution
Module 6 - Skills and Decision Making in Geography
We
Carry out a fieldwork study on a chosen topic
Carry out a decision making exercise using maps, statistics, reports and diagrams
This new format gives the student a broad experience of Geographical issues and techniques. It should prove to be a challenge!
