An Introduction to 'A' Level English Literature at Belfast High School

Before you decide that you want take an 'A/S' Level course, you need to be sure that it will suit you and that you will benefit from it. Think carefully about the following questions and your answers will give you some idea about how your abilities and attitudes match up to the demands of such a course.

Do you think about your reading or do you use it as a form of escapism?

How far up your list of favourite activities would you place reading?

What, apart from set texts at G.C.S.E., have you read in the last three months?

 

We follow the Northern Ireland (CCEA) Board: Syllabus B; this includes an element of coursework which is researched and written independently. This course enables the following to be achieved:

the development of a critical sense, personal response and independent judgement;

an understanding of the ways in which we read, respond to and interpret texts;

knowledge of various aspects of style;

the ability to write clearly and effectively.
